Palm Vein Access Control
Palm-vein access control reads the pattern of veins beneath the skin of the palm without touching a sensor. It is very hard to copy, hygienic and suits environments where fingerprints read poorly.

From Enrolment to Decision
- 01
Present
The user holds an open palm above the reader. No touch is needed.
- 02
Capture
Near-infrared light reveals the vein pattern, which sits beneath the skin and cannot be seen in a photograph.
- 03
Match
The pattern is matched to templates on the reader in under a second.
- 04
Record
The decision and the reason are logged against the holder.
What Makes It Work
Contactless and Hygienic
Nothing to touch, which suits hospitals, kitchens and food plants.
Hard to Copy
Veins are internal, so a photo or a lifted print does not work.
Dirty or Gloved Hands
Works where fingerprints struggle.
Private by Design
Irreversible templates, matched on the device.
Where to Use It
Data centres, hospitals, food and pharma plants, and high-assurance doors.
What to Plan For
A full palm is needed in view of the reader. Heavy gloves must be removed.
Palm Vein Questions
Why choose palm vein over fingerprint?
Palm vein is contactless and reads internal vein patterns, so it copes better with dry, worn or dirty hands and is harder to copy.
Is palm vein hygienic?
Yes. Nothing is touched, which suits hospitals, kitchens and clean rooms.
Where are palm templates stored?
As irreversible feature vectors on the reader. The raw capture is discarded.
