Most car-park queues are not caused by the barrier. They are caused by the driver having to stop, find a card, wind a window down in the rain, and reach for a reader mounted for a different vehicle height. Reading the plate removes all four steps.

The plate is checked against the same list as every door

ANPR is not a separate parking system bolted on the side. A recognised plate resolves to a holder in the same access list that governs the lobby turnstile, so a suspended pass suspends the car park at the same moment.

Night, rain and headlight glare

Infrared illumination and a short exposure freeze the plate rather than the scene, which is why a plate stays readable against oncoming headlights at night and through heavy rain.

Regional plate formats, including motorcycles

The character model is tuned for the plate layouts actually in use locally, including two-line motorcycle plates, which generic ANPR models routinely fail on.

One driver, one event

Bind a plate to a holder and the arrival reads as "Daniel Ooi arrived, vehicle WXY 1234" rather than as an anonymous plate hit that somebody has to reconcile later.

It fails gracefully

A caked, bent or missing plate falls through to a dynamic QR on the driver's phone or to an intercom call. Nobody sits at a barrier because the camera had a bad angle.

Tailgating and occupancy

Because entries and exits are both recorded against holders, occupancy is a live number rather than a guess, and a vehicle that entered but never left is visible instead of buried in a log.

Car-park barriers, loading bays, gated communities, and fleet yards.

Because every channel resolves to the same holder record, this does not have to be the only way in. A person can hold this alongside a card, a PIN and a plate, and the audit trail still reads as one identity.

Questions about vehicle plate recognition

How fast can a vehicle be moving?

The camera reads plates at normal barrier-approach speeds — the vehicle does not need to come to a complete stop before the read begins, which is what removes the queue.

Does it work at night?

Yes. Infrared illumination means the reader supplies its own light, so it does not depend on car-park lighting or headlights.

What if the plate cannot be read?

The system falls back to another channel — typically a dynamic QR on the driver's phone or an intercom call to the guard — rather than stranding the vehicle.

Can one holder have more than one vehicle?

Yes. Multiple plates can be bound to the same holder record, and all of them expire together when that holder's access does.
